PERIODONTAL DISEASE
Gum (periodontal) disease often progresses slowly and painlessly. If any of the signs below sound familiar, please have a check-up.
STAGE 1 · GINGIVITIS
Inflammation is limited to the gums. They swell and bleed, but the bone is still healthy — scaling and proper brushing can reverse it.
Main treatmentScaling
STAGE 2 · EARLY
Tartar builds up below the gum line and the bone starts to break down. The gap between gum and tooth (the periodontal pocket) deepens.
Main treatmentScaling · root planing
STAGE 3 · MODERATE
Bone loss becomes noticeable, with frequent sensitivity, bleeding and bad breath. Deep tartar and inflamed tissue under the gums must be removed.
Main treatmentSubgingival curettage
STAGE 4 · ADVANCED
Much of the bone is lost and teeth become loose. The gums are opened so we can treat under direct vision; if too little supporting bone remains, extraction may be considered.
Main treatmentFlap surgery
SCALING
The bacterial film (plaque) on teeth hardens into stone-like tartar over time. Brushing cannot remove tartar, and it causes gum inflammation, so regular scaling is needed.
1×
Covered by insurance
National Health Insurance covers one scaling a year (Jan–Dec) for adults aged 19+
6–12
Recommended (months)
Every 3 months if your gums are weak or you have implants
PERIODONTAL TREATMENT
Gum treatment depends on how deep the inflammation goes. We check pocket depths and the bone on X-rays, then treat only as much as needed.

FLAP SURGERY
ForPockets too deep for instruments to reach
The gum is gently opened so we can see the root and bone directly, remove deep tartar and infected tissue, reshape the bone if needed, and stitch it closed.
PERI-IMPLANTITIS
ForSwelling or bleeding around an implant
Inflammation around implants can progress faster than around natural teeth. We clean with dedicated instruments that do not damage the implant surface, and regular checks prevent bone loss.

FAQ
We answer every last question, carefully and in full.
Bleeding and swollen gums are signs of periodontitis. If left untreated, the bone around the teeth breaks down and teeth become loose, so the inflammation should be removed with scaling and gum treatment. Our dedicated hygienist team keeps your gums healthy with Professional Tooth Cleaning (PTC).
