WHY FRONT TEETH

Why front teeth
are harder to treat

Front teeth show every time you speak or smile. Even when only one is treated, a slight difference from the tooth beside it is noticeable — so there is more to look at.

  1. 01

    Color and translucency

A natural tooth is not one single color. It is deeper near the gum and more translucent toward the edge. A restoration has to follow the same gradation as the teeth beside it, or it looks out of place.

  2. 02

    Shape and length

The width, length and edge line of the left and right front teeth need to follow your smile line. Even a 1 mm difference can change how your smile looks.

  3. 03

    The gum line

The margin where a restoration meets the gum should be even and healthy. If the gum heights differ or the margin shows through dark, even a well-made restoration stands out.

  4. 04

    Thin bone and gum

Bone and gum are thin at the front of the mouth, so the result depends on where and how deep an implant is placed. When needed, we plan bone grafting or gum grafting together.

FOR YOU

The concerns people
come to us with

  • A front tooth is missing, or you have been told it needs to come out
  • A front tooth has chipped or turned dark
  • An old front crown stands out because its color differs from the teeth beside it
  • A dark line shows where a crown meets the gum
  • Gaps between the front teeth, small teeth or uneven lengths bother you
  • A lower front tooth is loose or missing, affecting your speech and smile

TREATMENT

The right option
for your front teeth

The method depends on whether the tooth is missing and how healthy the remaining tooth is. After diagnosis, we decide on the right one together.

IMPLANT

Front-tooth implant

An implant is placed where a front tooth is missing or cannot be saved. Because bone and gum are thin at the front, position and depth matter: after planning on 3D CT, our director — an oral & maxillofacial surgery specialist — places it himself.

Used for · Missing front tooth · front tooth with a fractured root

More about implants

CROWN · BRIDGE

Front crowns & bridges

A front tooth badly damaged by decay or fracture, or one that has had root canal treatment, is covered with an all-ceramic restoration. A material with no metal framework reduces the dark shadow that can show at the gum line. A missing tooth can also be restored with a bridge joined to the teeth on either side.

Used for · Broken tooth · discolored tooth · root-canal-treated tooth

LAMINATE

Laminates

Only the front surface of a healthy tooth is thinly prepared, and ceramic is bonded on to refine color, shape and gaps. They are made as Golden Eight, our laminate program, which reduces the tooth only as much as is really needed.

Used for · Gaps between front teeth · small teeth · stains and discoloration

More about laminates

RE-TREATMENT

Redoing an old restoration

An existing restoration that has discolored with age, or whose shape and color do not match, is made again. Rather than simply swapping it, we first check the tooth underneath and the gums, finish any treatment they need, and then make the new one.

Used for · Restorations that stand out · dark gum margin · old restorations

A tooth that can be saved is saved first. If only a small part has chipped, we may suggest resin build-up first, which restores the tooth without cutting it down.

SEOUL KWON DESIGN LAB

Dentist and technician,
working in the same space

With a front-tooth restoration, the work often comes down to one shade of color or 1 mm of edge line. We make them ourselves in our in-house lab, Seoul Kwon Design Lab, so the dentist who treats you and the technician who makes the restoration talk to each other directly.

Seoul Kwon Design Lab, the in-house dental lab of Seoul Kwon Dental Clinic
  • Dentist and technician check the color together

They hold a shade guide to the teeth and take photos together to read the tooth color and how it sits with the neighboring teeth.

  • Captured with a 3D intraoral scan

The TRIOS intraoral scanner records your teeth digitally and sends the data straight to our in-house lab.

  • Ceramic built up layer by layer

Over an all-ceramic material such as e.max, the technician layers ceramic to bring out even the translucent edge of a front tooth.

  • Adjusted right away if it looks off

The treating dentist and the technician are in the same space, so a color or shape that does not match can be corrected on the spot.

PROCESS

From diagnosis to fitting,
step by step

  1. 01

    STEP 01

    Detailed diagnosis

We check the teeth, bone and gums with 3D CT, an intraoral scan and photos of your mouth.

  2. 02

    STEP 02

    Treatment plan consultation

We first judge whether the tooth can be saved, then explain which option suits you — implant, crown or laminate — and the expected timeline.

  3. 03

    STEP 03

    Treatment and temporary tooth

The implant is placed or the tooth is prepared. You wear a temporary tooth during treatment, and we use it to check shape and length in advance.

  4. 04

    STEP 04

    Shade matching and fabrication

After checking the color against the neighboring teeth, the final restoration is made in our in-house lab.

  5. 05

    STEP 05

    Fitting and regular check-ups

We check color, shape and bite before fitting it, then look after the gums and the restoration at regular check-ups.

FAQ

Front teeth FAQ

We answer every last question, carefully and in full.

Matching a single front tooth to its neighbors is one of the more demanding jobs in restorative dentistry. Our dentists and the technicians in our in-house lab take photos together to check color and translucency, and try the restoration in your mouth again before it is fixed in place. Some difference may remain depending on the tooth and the material, so we explain the result you can expect after diagnosis.
